Application Dependency Mapping

Looking to migrate towards a Hybrid Cloud, but first need to get inventory and visualization of our Environment.

Any suggestions on what kind of questions I should ask when looking for this service?

All answers are good answers to me as I will research further, but I'm currently working on a list of questions for vendors.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

1. While the promise of improved flexibility and scalability make cloud migrations seem like a can't-miss venture, not every application is right for the cloud?

2. How will the legacy applications, mission-critical workloads and sensitive data -- such as credit card information -- can still remain as candidate to adopt for public cloud?

3. What are the options and approach that we can consider for such cloud first strategy e.g. lift and shift, re-code, re-platform, status quo, and re-build system.

4. Where and how should our organization consume cloud computing services? And how and what are available report to assure
our enterprises that the provider's certifications are up-to-date and up to mark?

5. How will we access, secure, manage, integrate and govern across hybrid environments?

6. How does cloud computing factor into our application strategy and architecture? E.g. to adopt cloud-optimized, cloud-native and hybrid applications.

7. How should our existing data center and infrastructure approaches and technologies change so as to best use them effectively?

8. What is the best practice approach to delivering any externally facing application, information or business process service as part of a digital business strategy? Often, these customer- and partner-facing systems will lead the way to the creation of new cloud-native applications, and the expertise gained can also be used for new internal custom applications.

9. What are important to consider the amount of resources each application uses? E.g. The public cloud is a multi-tenant environment, which means applications share resources. And while autoscaling in the public cloud scales resources up or down based on demand, will "noisy" neighbors be an issue and if so, how to reduce impact?

10. What are the cost involves to migrate application to cloud ? For example, any application with demand levels that randomly increase or decrease, such as mobile applications, yield a greater return on investment when moved to the cloud. That said, are there way to make applications that use legacy enterprise hardware -- such as earlier versions of an Oracle database -- be  actually less expensive to run in the cloud?
