Icons rather than thumbnails are displayed for pictures although the settings seem right
I have a Windows Surface Book Pro that is giving me some problems.
After I set up One Drive synchronization for two accounts is no longer showing thumbnails but only icons for one of the One Drive folders as well as the photos in the Documents folder.
The "Always Show icons, never thumbnails" is unchecked in the View settings, the local user policy is set so "Turn off the display of thumbnail and only display icons" is disabled.
If I open a jpg file for which the thumbnail is not displayed but rather the icon is by double clicking, thing that launches the Photos application, then close it, then refresh the view in File Explorer, the thumbnail is displayed.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

I set the OneDrive to synchronize all files. I synchronize two different OneDrive accounts on the local disk and back.
For one account the thumbnails are shown, for the other account I get only icons until I open any file with the default Photos application and then after I refresh the File Explorer window with F5 when the thumbnail for the file I just opened will be displayed.

The on demand is disabled for these OneDrives.
Try creating or setting "FilesOnDemandEnabled" to 0 as a DWORD value under HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mi crosoft\On eDrive and restart your computer.

Will this bring back the thumbnails?
It will set OneDrive to never use the OnDemand-feature for all users on the computer, so in theory it would bring back the thumbnails since it will download the full content.
If you don't like the behavior you can always delete the key and restart the computer and no harm will have been done.

Will do that. Thanks. What is odd is that it works for a folder but does not work for another on the same drive.

Unfortunately it does not work. Only icons are displayed.
If the pictures are opened in the Photos application then after a folder refresh the thumbnails are displayed.
I cannot figure out what information Photos is changing so the thumbnails are displayed.
The pictures not opened with Photos are showing an icon.
