How to troubleshoot a docking station not charging my HP Elitebook 840 g3 laptop

My HP Elitebook 840 g3 is no longer being charged while on the docking station.  I plugged the power cord directly to the laptop and it charges my laptops battery.  I updated the bios and that did not fix the issue.  My wife has the exact same laptop and the docking station in question does charge her laptop.  Everything else works when my laptop is using  the docking station like the usb mouse and keyboard connected to the docking station, getting to the internet from the connected ethernet on the docking station, and my two monitors work that are also connected to the docking station.

It was working yesterday and the issue began today.

I would appreciate any other troubleshooting suggestion to try to figure out the problem.

Thank you

Your computer works and the adapter works. You have shown that.

Try your partner's docking station on your computer and AC Adapter. If that works, your docking station needs to be replaced.

Unfortunately, my wife does not have a docking station.  Her docking station is at her job.

Thank you for that. I still think your docking station has a problem. You have tested all else.

I agree with you I just find it odd that when I test her laptop on the docking station it does work and the power shows plugged in, where my laptop does not show plugged in.

You would have to give her your laptop, take to her business, try it in her dock and see.

Thanks.  That is exactly what I was going to do.
Check the connector port on your laptop.  Maybe you need to clean it out.

make sure that you are using the ac adapter that comes with the docking station not the ac adapter that comes with the laptop to power on the docking station, The amp and wattage is usually larger on the one that plugs into the docking station. I have run into this issue a number of times when working on dell laptops when users power their docking stations with a lower powered adapter that came with the laptop.
