VMware 2nd NIC

I have a VMware virtual environment with 2 hosts running ESXi 6.

I am trying to add a 2nd NIC with a different IP range to my first NIC.

I assumed, after patching the NIC in, I would just need to create a 2nd vSwitch for the 2nd NIC & add the servers to this switch.

I am using vCenter Server to access my environment. When I am in Configure > Networking > Physical adaptors, it says the NIC is down even though I know it it patched in with access to the network.

Am I missing something? Do I need to do anything in ESXi for the other NIC's to work?

Everything you have down is correct.

No further configuration is required on ESXi.

Have you checked the cable, port, correct nic ?

ASKER

Checked the following -

- Changed cable
- Changed port on same switch
- Changed port to spare on different switch
- Changed port to an existing working pot

All NICS apart from original Management Network are showing as Down. See attached
You forgot the attachment.

We will need to start with what is the server, make and model ?

is the server on he Hardware Compatibility List ?

Does the server have the latest firmware applied to network interfaces ?
Sorry attached it now.

Server is - Dell PowerEdge R730

Where can I find the hardware compatibility list?

It is likely to have the same firmware version that it came with
What version of ESXi ?

Did you use the OEM version of ESXi from Dell ?

and you'll need to update the firmware on the Dell R730.

which is on the HCL.
Version 6.

Not OEM version from Dell. We downloaded directly from VMware

Ok, will try updating the firmware and see if that makes work.

HCL?

I havent upgraded an ESXI firmware. What is the easiest way to do this?
There is no ESXi firmware.

You need to update Server firmware, which is available as a DVD from Dell or via the LifeCycle Controller.
