Software to monitor critical devices
Hello Experts,
I have 5 devices and I want to have them monitors for any up and down status for the IPs.
Is there a free software I can install in one of the servers and add these devices.
Thanks,

To what extend is monitoring a server different from monitoring a switch/router?, Those are only dedicated systems.
Monitoring is bit broadly defined... so gives broad answers.
SNMP counters can be valuable, also from Servers/Clients.. esp if you trigger on change of error values on interfaces.
tshark (wireshark commandline part) can be used to record network traffic and then analyze the failing stuff.
to see what packets are missing.
Long delays are an indication of f.e. blocked ICMP (ICMP is used to report failures back to the originating system).
Failing DNS infra,
Did you check error logs for of the servers? anything in error logs on clients?...

Gents I have SolarWinds and it does application and services monitoring , so I am good. I will accept your replies as they are still helpful.
