Outlook 2010 not IMAP to Gmail

Outlook 2010 IMAP to Gmail not working...
I set Outlook 2010 IMAP to Gmail March 1 2018 for a client....so just one year old...
System was working perfectly until about 3 days ago...we do not know why it stopped...

Went thru the various attempts to connect to Gmail...would not connect...bad pw...
1.  I changed the pw in Gmail webmail...logged out and logged back in with new pw...I have a known good pw...
2. Attempted to log in again...I would get error message "email server rejected your login...
3.  I changed IMAP and SMTP ports...SSL/TLS and various combinations...nothing is working...
4. Ran scanpst and reported minor errors...repaired them...
5. Double checked Gmail settings and IMAP is ON....logged out and back in with new pw and it works...pw is good...
6. Double checked Outlook settings...everything matches up...double checked username spelling...double checked everything...
7.Googled "Outlook 2010 not pop gmail"...read various responses...nada...
8.Found this link  https://accounts.google.com/b/0/DisplayUnlockCaptcha ....went thru that process...nada...
9. Deleted email account in Outlook thinking profile is corrupted...
10. Now I cannot recreat the account in Outlook because Outlook will not connect up with Gmail...
11. Logged into Gmail webmail and turned IMAP off and turned POP on...
11. Tried to recreate the account but this time with POP settings rather than IMAP...no joy...

I have no idea what is going on...something is wrong within Outlook...or in the connection process with Gmail...
I have attached a .docx with screen shots of all my settings...

Any and all help is appreciated...I suspect google has changed something to increase security that I am not aware of...

Any and all suggestions appreciated...

Hi,

All settings seems correct. Did you tested by selecting "New Outlook Data File" instead of selecting 'existing outlook data file"?
Outlook 2010 will require you to enable the "less secure app" option in Gmail and here is their article on doing so:

That's covered in my article as well Davis. It's not just Outlook 2010 that requires it either. No Windows versions of Outlook are considered Secure Apps by Gmail.

Thanks Andrew...the great thing about being in the IT industry is that you learn something every day...!!!
I had NO idea that Google was doing this "less secure" option....
I support a bunch of home users and I have maybe 4 people using Outlook...I had that same issue last fall with an Outlook user
connecting to ATT...And I use Outlook with Gmail myself....but I've never seen it before...

It will be a few days before I can get to the client and work this out...I;'ll report back...
thanks again...
You're welcome Steven and hope it helps you out. Using the process I detailed in my article, I've yet to fail being able to resolve Password issues between Outlook and Gmail and I've configured / repaired dozens of computers having that problem over the years.

No worries. I'm 57 and still learning every day :)

I'l be looking forward to your update.

Best, Andrew
Got you beat...I'm 76...my small computer support business is kind of a "retirement" business...pays for my vacations...:)
Thanks Andrew...worked perfectly...
Back up and running...

You're very welcome Steve and glad my article was able to help you out.

If you could take a moment to also endorse the article with a thumbs up as well, then that would be much appreciated.
