Next time, do not restart the Server.  Go to Services (Admin Tools) and turn QBCFMonitorService.  Check QB immediately after and it should work.

Set the Service to Automatic and have it start multiple times to ensure it starts.  Even so, once in a while it doesn't start and you need to start it.

The error you got relates directly to this service.

What is causing this error to occur?

Is there a permanent fix? This happens randomly and all clients gets this error message.

here is another excerpt on how to resolve the issue.
H202 Error only: Use the QuickBooks Database Server Manager to fix your H202 error
Go to your server computer (computer that physically stores your company file).
At your server computer (computer hosting your company file/s), open the start menu and type database.
Click on QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
If no folder locations are shown, click Browse and browse to the folder where you store your company file(s).
Click OK.
Click Start Scan, which will repair the firewall permissions to allow QuickBooks to communicate over your network and resolve your error.
When finished, click Close and try opening QuickBooks in Multi-User mode on your workstation(s).
All Clients get the message because the Server QBCFMonitorService has stopped on the Server and so Clients cannot connect to the QB Server Manager.  That is why all Clients get the message.

Cause?  Not exactly sure.  As our server 2012 updates over time, the service not starting (after update restart) is decreasing.

Intuit Support suggested in the Service Properties under Recovery to start again after failures and that usually works.

Is the a permanent fix?  Not yet.
Hi John,

All users are in single user mode, what is multi-user mode? what is recommended?

FYI, Server don't have any internal DNS settings and is joined to workgroup
that is likely your problem.  if the file is in single user mode when one person has it open nobody else will be able to connect.  if the person who had it open doesn't close out properly or happens to lose connection for whatever reason, nobody else will be able to get in until the service is bounced.

here is a way to set a scheduled task to "automate" the bouncing of that service.

It does not matter which mode is used - whichever the user is comfortable with. We have our machines set to multi-user because there are two or three users.
The H202 error is a service error and does not relate to single or multi user. However single user of course prevents another user from logging on.
here is another blog post on ways to resolve the H202 error.

take a look here and combine that with the info John provided above regarding restarting the service and you should be set.
Hi Sean,

I have seen that link and is lot of options which confused me which one to go. Would try restarting the service that John recommended to see if it works. Thanks.
Also, the QBFCMonitor Service is set to automatic.
Look in the Recovery Tab for the Service Properties and do multiple starts in the even of a start failure.
restarting the service will help alleviate the symptoms and prevent you from having to restart the server.  However, the underlying issue still needs to be addressed and that is likely because you have multiple people trying to access a single user file.
you should try and get them to put the file into multi user mode.  this will most likely resolve the root cause of the issue.
I am not sure of your server environment. This issue (H202) only occurs upon Server Restart (monthly) and then only once in a while.
because you have multiple people trying to access a single user file.   So long as we use Multi User mode (more than one user) this issue does not occur
Yes we have multi user environment, how to change from single user mode to multi user mode? How to check current settings?

Some users do connect through VPN.
QB Client File Menu and Single / Multi User is right there.
Do we have to make changes on the server and all the users to change to multi user mode?
No. Just on the User machines.  The Server Manager does not care what mode you are using. You need Single User to add/change Accounts, File Sales Tax and other things. So it is common to change modes and if the services are running and all is normal, changing modes does not cause any issue.
So on all users machines, go to file menu -> change from single user to multi user mode?
Yes.  You should see the menu right there.
please note you only have to do it on 1 persons computer that is currently accessing the file.  it does not have to be done for each user.
How to find which user is that?
Sean --  ALL computers with QB installed must be in Multi User mode.  Every user. If one user is Single and running, everyone else is locked out. So ALL users must be Multi User
Go to each QB machine and set to Multi User.
On the server, we don't have to select single or multi user mode? How the server will be identified as a "Server" and rest as "users"?
QB 2019 is not that way any longer.  it is the file that is set to multi user not the user.  I have been beta testing and apparently have forgotten about older versions so apologies on losing track to the older versions.

for clarification, what version of QB are you using?  (sorry should have asked that before) .
if 2018 or older then set to multi user for each client (file-single/multi user)
if 2019 open the file on one computer and set for multi user.  the file can now be opened by multiple users at the same time
the server is the computer that physically hosts the file.  all the other computers are "clients"
On the server, we don't have to select single or multi user mode?   <-- If you mean the Server QB Server Manager, no, you do not select the mode on the Server Manager.

How the server will be identified as a "Server" and rest as "users"?

In your first post, you wrote  "Restarting the server resolves the issue"   So you have a Server  - Correct?  Please clarify.
Yes there is a server and found that all users are in multi user mode.
Did you try the advanced service settings as outlined above.
