Sharepoint 2007 Site Collection errors

We have a Sharepoint 2007 farm and 1 of the site collections stopped working all of a sudden. When trying to go to a site we get "File Not Found". Turned on more detailed errors and getting "Resource cannot be found" HTTP 404 The resource you are looking for could have been removed, had it's name change, or is temporarily unavailable. Also getting a bunch or this error in Application Even Viewer. "Console Configuration File Error: File Not Found. The system cannot find the file specified.
We have rebooted the server and have also moved the site collection to a different WFE and it will work for a little bit and then back to getting these errors.

Quick question - what do you mean by this, how did you do that?

'moved the site collection to a different WFE and it will work for a little bit and then back to getting these errors.'

Thanks

Actually that part is irrelevant now since we moved it back.
But basically we have 2 web front ends that act as a fail over for one another, and we stopped the site in IIS on one and started it up on the other.
Understood,

Using the theory that if you can get to it once and haven't deleted it, it should still be there.  SharePoint is not like a shaky switch and sometimes renders files and sometimes it doesn't. Hate to say it but this might be caused by a flaky hard disk on the SQL server or other component. Based on your message in the Event Viewer, a network issue is probably not the problem, but that layer should also be checked out

Good luck...
