Microsoft Access Form fails to load in Windows Server 2019

User generated imageHi,
I have Windows 2008 Server running ACCESS database in 2003 version of ACCESS. It runs fine.
Today I installed Windows server 2019 and installed ACCESS 2003 on it. When I open my database file, it closes the database file automatically as it tries to open "mainmenu"  form.
When I open it while holding down the [Shift] key, I can see the all my objects - Tables, Queries, Forms, Reports ... etc. However the moment that I try to open any forms, it kicks me out of ACCESS. I can open tables without any problem. My security/Macro is set to low.
can you help?

Sglee,

I think that the answer is kind of obvious, the problem is that you want to use nowadays OS with a technology that has almost 18 - 20 years old. I think that you'd need to update the forms to a most recent format. There's also a version of Microsoft access 2016 or 2019 if I'm not mistaken. So My recommendation would be to migrate it into the latest "MS access"  nowadays. I mean it's kind of hard to make software to work with 10 years old, so imagine how hard would be to make it work with 20...

Probably try with OS WS 2016, or even 2012 and stick to it,  2019 is waaay more secure, so you'd need a less secure OS than 2019.

Another point would be that you probably have something on the event viewer, that tells you why the access is closing itself.
Activate Hyper-V on the server and install your Access 2003 in a virtual machine running, say, Windows 7.

Have you checked your VBA references to see if any are MISSING?
Have you ensured your VBA code compiles without any errors?

Come to think of it, there was an error during the installation of Office 2003 and I simply chose "Retry" and proceeded with installation.
Let me uninstall it and reinstall it from the scratch. That error may have been created by the user account that was not a local administrator.
I will report back later.

Yes.   Also make sure you right click and do "Run as admin" when doing the install.

Also, is there any other version of Office on the server?

When in my previous work decided that it was time to switch to Windows 10 i found out that my beloved Access 2003 was no go...i had serious problem when i was in design view...even if you manage to install it on the 2019 server i guess you are going to have considerable amount of issues ...for my case i made a VM with XP+2k3 and continued working
A VM is probably the cleanest way to go, but for what it's worth, A97 and up all run under Win 10.

The error that occurred during Office 2003 installation was about FOXPRO ODBC related. I also tried an option to run as administrator.
I installed Office 2007, but the same issue.
I could not try Office 2010 because lack of license.
I installed Office 2013 and my ACCESS program worked just fine.
I guess you have to have either Office 2010 or, to be sure, Office 2013 ACCESS to run on Windows Server 2019.

Thank you.
