Windows 7 and Windows Fax

Hello all,
I have never been asked this until this past week.
In Windows 7 there is Windows Fax under printers.
Can you send reports to this printer and have it fax the report to another fax machine without having a modem attached to your computer or network?
If not then why does Windows 7 come with this Windows fax?
Thanks,

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Modem or MFC (Multi function printer)
If you will install in your system let say Brother MFC (Printer / Scanner / Fax) then you going to be able use Windows Fax features

No modem = use a fax service (Google for such) .  These are paid services.

You can purchase and add a modem card for your computer if you wish to go that route

Jackie and Tom are correct.  To FAX directly from a PC still requires a FAX-capable modem.

The reason the FAX modem appears is because the FAX service is installed in Windows as a default.  It can be removed using Windows programs-and-features setup.  My guess is that it's included by default because there are several hundred different modems capable of FAX, some serial and some USB, all requiring unique drivers, and it is not reasonable for Windows to take the time during installation to probe for and try to identify which one is present -- if any.
