Obviously, MS wanted to make it easy for you, so here it is for free:

ASKER

It is asking for PC name and IP address,

On a  the laptop to access our organisation desktop ourside of our network through  RDP we use the link simillart to the below

https://desktop .myorganization.co.uk

It prompts for user name and password and once the credentila sare put it connects to the RDP server and then to the user desktop PC.

SO will i need to look up the host name (desktop .myorganization.co.uk) and put the IP that  it resolves on the ipad?
Also what would be the PC name , it is the RDP server name  or i can give any name

Thanks
There's multiple free RDP, but I would stick with the Microsoft one if you don't do much else.

make sure desktops and iPad is in the same network. if not connect to your local network via VPN from iPad.

make sure that DNS resolution is happening for desktop .myorganization.co.uk
I installed the Microsoft Remote desktop on my iPad.
https://www.apple.com/uk/search/microsoft-remore-desktop?src=globalnav

After installing the APP On the configuration page I put only the following settings.

PC Name : desktop .myorganization.co.uk:3389
User Account: Domain\SSmith

With the above settings, I am able to RDP into the windows 2012 RDP server within our network  successfully.
But when I try to RDP from my home Wi-Fi network , it says :

Initiating remote connection and after 15 seconds it says
Unable to connect to a remote PC. Please verify Remote Desktop is enabled, the remote PC is turned on and available on the network, then try again.

Am I missing any configurations on the Microsoft Remote Desktop APP ?
Prabhin is saying , I have to connect to my local network via VPN from iPad.
Is it straight forward installing any VPN software from app store , or does it need additional configuration on the VPN app and on our firewall as well ?
Please help.

Please help guys
It sounds like desktop.myorganization.co.uk:3389 is not exposed outside your corporate network, which isn't a huge surprise.  If that is the case then you will need to first establish a VPN connection from the iPad to your corporate network, and then launch the RDP session to that URL once you have established the VPN connection.  You will need to reach out to you network support group for information about the VPN client to use, and the connection protocol and credentials.

The interesting this is :
I am able to successfully RDP from home through a Windows 7/10 laptop, But not from the iPad ? and get the following error on the iPad.

Initiating remote connection and after 15 seconds it says
Unable to connect to a remote PC. Please verify Remote Desktop is enabled, the remote PC is turned on and available on the network, then try again.
Not only is the RDP port not exposed to the outside, as I said before, there's a remote desktop gateway in place, where you point to the desktop also, BUT you have to fill in the remote gateway info as well.
Another option is to use VPN, then the gateway is not necessary.
So do you mean that port 3389 is not opened for outside connection on our firewall?

If so how iam able to sucessfully RDP from my window laptop, from outside using the following URL?
https://desktop .myorganization.co.uk/RDweb
You didn't read anything I posted I'm guessing? It's all explained here, which included a link with very detailed steps:

RDP is generally not open to the outside world, because it can be attacked.  You really want to use a corporate VPN for that.
Ok if i set up multi factor authentication for the RDP , will that be safe?
Thanks
RDP itself has had vulnerabilities.  Don't leave it open on the internet.
