Windows 10 EliteBook does not find second monitor

Windows 10 EliteBook does not find second monitor

I have an HDMI cable and got an adapter called:

4K * 2K ULTRA HD

But, when I plug it into the Samsung monitor, I only see the desktop of the PC displayed on the monitor.

So, I go to the laptop, right-click and select Display Settings.

But it does not detect a second monitor.

What am I missing?

Thanks

is your adapter a duplicating signal or a splitter?

besides the HDMI cable, does the laptop have a mini-HDMI or another USB-C port, or Display Port?
if you post your model number, may be able to check out the ports.

I am re-reading your question and I am not sure what you mean by "I only see the desktop of the PC displayed on the monitor".

Do you have a PC and a laptop, both connected to the same monitor?  how is each one connected?

now, according to HP datasheet:  www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/elite-products/assets/elitebook850.pdf

this computer has the following:

Ports and Connectors 3 USB 3.0; 1 USB 3.0 charging; 1 DisplayPort 1.2; 1 VGA; 1 combo stereo headphone/mic jack;1 AC power; 1 RJ-45; 1 side-docking connector; 1 secondary battery connector

so you have 1 Display Port 1.2 and one VGA port.

You could connect the PC with VGA and the laptop with Display Port, or vice versa.
What kind of connections does the monitor have?

The adapter I posted was for the Display Port and that should be a different output than the VGA port

I do see the VGA but assumed HDMI was better. No?

So, i am trying to use the adapter mentioned

4K * 2K ULTRA HD

to get an HDMI into the port

https://www.ebay.com/i/292746330128?chn=ps

but from Window 10 desktop it only can discover the one monitor. Therefore, i can only show the same desktop instead of a wider image where both displays add up to a larger view area...

can this be fixed?

Is there a Display Port output on the computer in addition to VGA?

female...is that input?

So you the Display Port adapter I posted further back.
