The business essentials license will work with Outlook. Only the kiosk licenses are limited to prevent use in outlook.

i have the address set up in 365 already but cannot get mail yet as i have not migrated the records from old inmotion server yet.  will that make a difference in trying to set up exchange account already?  im getting a message "an encrypted connection is not available to your mail server;;;"

Have you setup the exchange account according to the guide in my earlier comment?

If you are using Outlook 2010, you need to Uncheck "Encrypt data between Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange" in the Security tab.

If you need encypted connetion, you need to upgrade your MS Office.
no i did not try manual yet, just automatic.  ill try the setup though mail as stated in that article ;-).  so my not being able to receive mail yet (records not migrated to exchange yet) will not impede this setup?  thanks
no go.  i do not have an "anonymous connection" under security "logon network security".

There is no automatic way to setup Office 365 in Outlook 2010.

You need to upgrade MS Office if you want automatic setup.
