Simple question:  I am running Windows 7 Pro.  I am looking for an easy to use free RSS reader.  Does not have to be fancy.  Yes, I have tried searching before posting but I cannot find any post answering this question.

What RSS reader do you recommend?

I added it to Firefox.  How do you use this add-on?    I tried searching the web:  "how to use awesome-rss"  .  No links tell me how to use it. Very frustrating.

Go and fine an RSS feed of interest to you and then add it.

Sorry. The suggestion from my previous comment does not work on the latest version of Firefox browser.

Try the addon below instead.

I have tested the above addon and it should work for the latest version of Firefox.

Feedbro
As per the screen above, you will see an icon of Feebbro with the number of unread RSS feeds. Click on the icon and you can select "Open Feed Reader" to read the RSS feeds.

Actually Awesome RSS does still work, but other RSS functionality was recently removed from Firefox, so a second extension would be needed. I'm currently using it with RSSPreview.

I also bookmarked two others :

Thank you all for the information.  I will try RSSPreview.

Thanks to you all for your suggestions.  I found an amazing RSS feed reader called Thunderbird.  It's incredible.  Does everything I want.  Gives me a synopsis of the article in the RSS feed and downloads the file to whatever folder I want.  And it's free.
