Migrating from FRS to DFSR
My Domain hada mix of 2008 R2, 2012 R2, and 2016 Domain Controllers. The Domain functional level was and is currently still set to Windows Server 2008 R2.
I have eliminated all the domain controllers other than the 2016 servers and added two more. The FSMO roles have been migrated as well split up between two of the DCs.
If i raise the domain functional level to windows server 2016, will they auto migrate to DFS-R? Or is there something i need to do to migrate to DFS-R before raising the domain functional level?
Its my understanding that they are still using FRS.
If i run dfsrmig /GetMigrationState i get: "All Domain Controllers have migrated successfully to the Global state ('Start'). Migratiion has reached a consistent state on all domain Controllers.

You must migrate it yourself following the documentation Microsoft has published.
