How different is the appeal of phone games to others?

Hi
My moth (er) said in an email this morning that she's been watching some older movies lately, and that the dated look is annoying.
She said so, concerning the game I'm making. I think she might be correct.
My game isn't Nintendo 64, giant pixel, but in my opinion, all the modern games with tetris like brick horizontal/localized annihilation look likewise, unoriginal. - tho they are fun
But are they making big bucks? They must be. It must just be the gameplay that matters? I can't imagine that everybody expects NBA 2K GUI experience on every phone game? Aren't phone games in a category of forgiveness for simplicity, as long as it's fun?

Thanks

Look at Minecraft.  Primitive graphics; wildly popular.

To answer your question, no, I don't think high-res graphics are necessary for a game to be well-received.

Everyone will have their own point of view.

My wife asked about games for the computer (we could do that), but really meant "How do I keep up with grandchildren using Mom's iPhone.  We purchase iPhone and some simple games. That is now what we use. Simple, easy, attractive and effective.
Hi,

It's depends, but people do prefer what look nice and since high resolution exist people are more and more selective.
People are buying new tv and new device for that reason...

I'm a gamer and still like to play old game and still have old console but not anyone will do that...

It depend what is the market you trying to get...

If the kind of game you plan to make is similar to another one, the one that look good will win.

Will you install a game that don't look good and which is not from a known company, probably not...
Usually public can spot rapidly if the game is just to show pub to make $$...

It is ok to plan and check the market first, but I would say take action, do your game, publish it and you will see.
You probably won't make a tons of money from it but your next game will be better and who knows...

beavoid,

good luck.
Last advice would be:
Do what you love and with all your passion.
Don't try to follow every trend.
The rest will happen, and is only partly in your hand.

Enjoy what you do.
Cheers
