General recommendation would be to run Data Migration Assistant(Previously SQL Server Upgrade Advisor) to suggest you the list of potential issues that can come out of Migration.

In SQL Server 2008, mainly Online Index Rebuild and Table Partitioning features..
However, please find the complete list for SQL Server 2016 here..
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/sql-server/editions-and-components-of-sql-server-2016?view=sql-server-2017

Compatibility and points to note will be covered as part of Data Migration Assistant..
For Migration checklist, capture the below things:
1. Linked Servers
2. Jobs
3. Logins
4. Any customization of modifications done on Master database.
