Need fastest application or method to display a jpg file

What is the fastest application or method to view jpg files? I have many that I must sort through and by default they open with Quickview Plus. It takes about 4 to 5 seconds to fully paint the picture. Photoshop is also slow. I have a VERY fast workstation and a VERY fast video card. I just need to know which software to use to be able to doubleclick the filename and have it display instantly. I am certainly open to trying several suggestions. Thanks!

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Why not just use the Windows File Explorer, and turn on the Preview pane.  Then you just open the folder there, and as you click each file you see a preview in the explorer pane, very fast.

You didn't say the file sizes because larger files will slow it down, also

i would have to agree with McKnife

it supports almost ALL image files (including PDF & video)

  • you can view images in the same folder sequentially using the L/R arrows
  • if an image has layers (or multiple pages, like a PDF document), you can scroll through them using the Up/Down arrows

it is VERY quick to open even large files and many other features as well

Hi N-a-C,
I can't say what the "fastest" is because I haven't tried everything. :) But I can say that the following are very fast:

FastStone
IrfanView
Microsoft Picture Manager
paint.net

Of course, the performance depends on the JPG itself. I tested the above apps with a 6.5MB JPG (24-bit/3kX4k=12MP) and the rendering was nearly instantaneous with all of them...certainly less than a second. Regards, Joe

I prefer HoneyView over InfraView. It is only a viewer

Run this to install it or download it from https://www.bandisoft.com/honeyview/
@"%SystemRoot%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe" -NoProfile -InputFormat None -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Command "iex ((New-Object System.Net.WebClient).DownloadString('https://chocolatey.org/install.ps1'))" && SET "PATH=%PATH%;%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\chocolatey\bin"
choco install honeyview

That or show large thumbnails in widows explorer. The first time it will take a while while the thumbnails are created.  My picture application of choice is ACDSEE.

Hello Experts. Forgive my slow response. It was unavoidable. I have found my answer in a combination. The native file preview window and Irfanview in combination for different uses is perfect for me. Each are as fast as I could want them. Thanks to every expert that contributed to help. I appreciate you!!
