Sizing of Firewall - Parameter - References
Dear Guru,
As a presales Engineer, i would like to know if there is any reference websites to understand how to size a firewall ie what parameters to consider while selecting a model , as i am worried , that solution shouldn't undersize or oversize the requirement

What will happen is you will spend a good deal of time recommending the correct firewall then sales will sell then the cheapest one! </cynicism>
I primarily work with Cisco firewalls, I've got a spreadsheet that I knocked up for the old and new models so you can compare features etc?

Hi,
There is no standard model or spec. for all products to fit the customer requirement since you are selling a product of a vendor, you have to know the tiny details of the product and models information and what it supports like (throughput, interfaces, VPN/IPsec, encryption algorithm, security profiles .....).
then your turn is fit the suitable product/ model based on the client technical RFP with the client budgetary price, put in your consideration client future needs or growth.

The number of users, the network utilization, the bandwidth, what features are required on the firewall, estimated user/usage growth, etc. By knowing all these then only a properly sized firewall can be determined.
