Hi

I have a JVC video camera GZ-HD40EK and we had video recordings of exams  on the camera. Somehow the videos have been deleted or may  be formatted.

Now the examiner wants the videos.

Guys please help , is there any way i can recover the videos from this camera.

Likely the drive has EX-FAT formatting, so Linux recovery tools can be used, which skip over any Windows... smartness... which can block recovery.

You can also use a Mac, after installing https://www.macports.org/ on a Mac.

Install one of the many data recovery tools (on Linux or Mac), like testdisk.

https://itsfoss.com/recover-deleted-files-linux/ provides a good tutorial.

If you have no Windows or Linux machine, you can also build a Linux Live USB system, with testdisk installed, then boot the USB stick on any Intel or AMD hardware.

Big Note: If you expect to recover any data, you must remove the hard disk from the camera now + avoid any use of this disk, till after the drive is recovered.

Big Note: Be sure to mount the drive as read only when working on it, then recover the files to another location. If you attempt recovering them in place, you will surely lose data.

Big Note: Before you attach the disk to any machine - Linux, Mac, Windows - be sure you completely disable the file indexing system on the machine, because as soon as you attach the disk, the indexer will usually write an index file to the disk, which may over write a file block on the drive, so one video may have a corrupted block. If the block relates to say the MP4 container data, you can end up loosing one entire video.
