convert trial version to full version of Windows server 2019

I have downloaded a trial version of Windows server 2019 standard edition. I have then ordered the OEM version.

Am I going to be able to use this OEM licence to convert the trial into the full working version?

From an elevated command prompt, determine the current edition name with the command

DISM /online /Get-CurrentEdition

Make note of the edition ID, an abbreviated form of the edition name. Then run
DISM /online /Set-Edition:<edition ID> /ProductKey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /AcceptEula

providing the edition ID and a retail product key. The server will restart twice.

You can also to to the system properties and there is an activation wizard there that will allow you to enter the full license information and upgrade to full. These evaluation versions make it easier than before as you don't have to do much other than input key and register it. Past that, just check updates but typically little work is required unless you are going to a new version like DataCenter or Essentials, then its a whole new ballgame!

In theory the OEM licence will only work with the OEM media.  Because OEM should strictly be pre-installed there isn't a formal pathway from a pre-existing installation of any Trial Version OS.

There are a whole bunch of other considerations you should make before going OEM
C++ 11 Fundamentals

This course will introduce you to C++ 11 and teach you about syntax fundamentals.

i am wondering how could an OEM version be ordered and shipped to end users directly?

are you sure what you ordered is a genuine copy of Windows 2019?

BTW, OEM version is not in the same line of Standard, Enterprise or Data Center editions. an OEM version has nothing to do with the features of Windows of those editions, it is mainly for licensing model.

No idea if converting to an OEM version will work because it's basically a license violation in my view - OEM is supposed to be installed on new hardware - it should not have upgrade capabilities (old versions didn't).  I don't know if the DISM key upgrade will work.  Even if it does, I would suspect this is considered a license violation.

If you want to do this right, use a volume license or retail edition.  They should work fine in MOST cases.  But there are some instances that don't support changing the edition:
This is for 2016 but it likely holds true for 2019: (quote below)
If the server is a domain controller, you cannot convert it to a retail version. In this case, install an additional domain controller on a server that runs a retail version and remove AD DS from the domain controller that runs on the evaluation version.

System Builder OEM packs are widely available for retail sale.  Their intended use is for those licenced by Microsoft under their OEM programme to pre-install for purchase.

There is no obligation on the retailer to check if the purchaser is authorized to install the product they purchase.

Retailers often seem to overlook the OEM aspect of the products they advertise too. Which can be confusing for purchasers who don't realise what they are buying.

But they can also own up about OEM on the same site*

*Other retailers are available I just picked this example as mainstream US

thanks for sharing the information and the links. i still don't think it is legal from the perspective of Microsoft, the original vendor of Widnows OS. basically any OEM version of Windows OS must be bundled with corresponding compatible hardware. it is okay to sell them all together, but not the OEM version only. a better explanation can be found here from an official blog article.

moreover, Widnows 10 Pro is $160 USD from here, which is not worth it as the genuine copy is $200 USD directly from Microsoft, see below.

is this a new system you are installing on?  if so you can get away with the OEM version.  if not then as others have mentioned it is a violation of the licensing agreement.  you will prob want to see if you can get your money back and get a regular non oem version.
also did they give you the oem sticker that goes on the outside of the server?  if not then you got duped and do not have a legal copy of Windows.
I remember in the past that some companies sold OEM versions of Windows provided you purchased a piece of hardware at the same time. It could be something small, but the fact of the matter was that hardware was purchased (whether you actually installed that piece of hardware was a different matter...)

Yes, the "bought with a bit of a computer" mythology. Didn't make it any more legitimate then but was eBay's workaround for carrying OEM product and eventually seemed to become accepted as a kind of folklore outside of online auctions too.
