Windows update error 8024402F on Windows 7 and 2008R2 starting May 2019
just recently I'm getting windows update errors on both windows 7 and server 2008R2 - same error message 8024402F
This is new as last month everything worked - anyone found a cause/solution?

you might want to try this registry fix
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHIN E\SYSTEM\C urrentCont rolSet\Ser vices\Trus tedInstall er
go to permissions and administrators change it from read to full control
change block time increment to 0x2a30 (10800)
no reboot required
now retry the updates

John, I tried all the troubleshooters and redid the update repositories - same issue
David, I tried this on Win7, same issue.
I think it's more than coincidence that this just started happening on both win7 and server 2008r2 this month.
I suspect something with an update from last month, or some other issue. Right now, I can't get updates on either.

Thanks John. I ran this on Win7 and when it finished and I switched to server, I saw that WSUS had downloaded updates for the server. Once applying those updates, Windows update now works again on both platforms. Not sure if I had left it alone if it would have began working on it's own again, but good to know about wsusoffline.net. Is this a Microsoft tool, or just uses MS's updating framework?
Thanks for the update. WSUS Offline is maintained outside of Microsoft but using Microsoft Updates.
