Windows 10 fails to start in 'default mode' but not others
Hi,
Weird problem here. I've got a Windows 10 VM that used to work. But now it always fails with an 0xc000021a error. I tried to google a solution but I have failed so far :(
I've tried running sfc /scannow as well as Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth (after having successfully booted in Windows 10 by using 'disable driver signature enforcement' in the 'startup settings' of the troubleshoot menu.
Any other ideas? Thanks!

Will this also work in this case where Windows 10 is running as a virtual machine on a server?
It should work on any running Windows 10 machine. It needs an Internet Connection.

But I can't just run it from a USB key if it's a VM ... ?
Can you enable USB mode on the VM. You just need to run Setup on the USB key. You can use that link above (Media Creation Link) to create the USB on a different computer. There is a an option to do that.
Once made, run Setup on the USB Key on the Windows 10 VM.

Ok, I'll check that. Or may boot from an ISO? The MS tool allows me to create an ISO.

Ok, so I've noticed that the VM was still using Windows 10 (v.1509). I've upgraded it to v.1809 now (using the standalone upgrade thingie) and everything works fine again!

Windows 10 is running, so click on the Download button (not Upgrade Button, select Save.
Create a USB Windows Installation key and then run Setup on the USB Key.
This will launch the Repair and proceed normally.
Try the option Keep Everything. If that does not work you may need to reinstall Windows.
