Facebook Hacked?

Several people have told me my facebook account has been hacked, that someone else is using my contacts.

How do I (1) find out if that's true and (2) if so, fix it?

Thanks

You will get some good info here I'm sure, but the first and foremost thing I would do would be to change your password, immediately.  Just in case that is the source of the problem, someone actually logging in as you.

What's more common though is hackers setting up a new account that looks like yours, perhaps borrowing a picture from your current account, etc.  If your friends list is public, or if you have accepted a friend request from a hacker without knowing it, then they can try and connect with your friends (contacts).

Try and get more info from the people that have reported suspicious stuff related to your account, that will help guide actions.

If you go to settings > Security https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=security you can view where you have logged in. That should help detect if somebody logged in as you from another location.
If its the case Bill describes, where someone creates an account that uses your information (same picture, same name as you, is requesting to be their friend), have those people report that account so Facebook will shut it down.

This happened to my mother in law, where her daughters and friends were getting "new" friend requests from her, but it was an account made by people who likely wanted to impersonate her to get personal information from friends and family. The false account was reported and went away, no un-authorized access had actually happened to her real Facebook account (which you can check in Scott's link).
I just looked at your Facebook page here too Richard, and I will warn you that you are sharing way too much with "public" facebook people, meaning people like me, that aren't even your friends.  I can see your friends, and other details that I'd recommend you mark as only visible to your friends.

I changed the password.

All the where logged in from's (only goes back to May 16) were from me.

So anything else?

This seems passive & NOT proactive.

If no un-authorized log ins occurred, this is probably a case of something attempting to impersonate you. Have the people who have come into contact with that account report it as a fake account.
Facebook is a sidelight in my life, a place I go about ever 2 or 3 days for relaxation, to get out of the stress of being a developer for a while.

I don't even have a clue how to make things I post not public. I thought that was the whole idea.

Several people have told me my facebook account has been hacked, that someone else is using my contacts.

This comes and goes and is typically fake. You will see many posts, "my account was hacked don't accept a friend request from me" and the account was never really hacked like yours.

If you are not seeing any suspicious log ins, I would move on and not worry.
