What is as good as Picasa for Windows now that it's gone?

The Windows 10 user was really productive using Picasa (when it was around)
Rather than continue to use an old version of Picasa, they would like to use an application that has almost the same functionality, especially including:
Automatic sorting by date
Deletion of duplicates
Creation and sharing of albums
Simple editing of photos.

They have an iPhone, a lot of storage in iCloud, and they're using iCloud for Windows for synchronization.

Thanks for any suggestions.

i don't think that IrfanView provides the following functionalities:
  • Automatic sorting by date
  • Deletion of duplicates
  • Creation and sharing of albums
but i may be mistaken

Paul -  the user was used to Picasa, and found that Google Photos didn't seem to work any way close to Picasa.
I'll take a closer look if you say that GP has close to the same functionality.
what about irfanview?
Why not try Photos? Already included in Windows. But you should also be look at Infanview like nobus has already mentioned twice.

I'm not sure that any product is ever going to be 100 percent what the user wants, but let's see how close you can get.

Unfortunately there isn't really a good equivalent last time I checked. I was very sad when Google announced they were shutting down Picasa.

Adobe Lightroom is more complicated but it does have an option for online cloud sync and sharing of photos. It's $10/month but it's one of the most feature complete photo editors and it's used by professionals everywhere. It also has mobile apps that share the same cloud storage. I don't know if it has automatic duplicate deletion but it does have the other features you asked for. Make sure you get Lightroom CC which is meant for everyone and not Lightroom Classic which is geared more towards advanced users.

If you don't need the cloud storage and sharing then you can use a free alternative to Lightroom called Darktable.
