Redundant Windows DNS without domain

Hi

I want to configure 2 redundant DNS servers on Windows without a domain. Should one server be primary and the other one be able to make zone transfers?
In case if the primary DNS server goes down and we make changes to the secondary, how can we synchronize them back to the primary?

thanks
BR

You can configure a primary zone on 1st server and second server and configure zone transfer. Thats it.
Configure the same in NIC settings.
Please check this as well.

Ideally configure both zones as primary on both servers and update manually

U may configure primary and secondary but u may face issues if zones not updated in time

Primary to secondary and vice versa is manual process

What is the purpose of redundant internal DNS without a domain?

You can setup a domain and have redundant DNS, or host your DNS on a 3rd party DNS provider and have all sorts of DNS redundancy. I am not sure that I would want my internal DNS hosted on a public service, but it really depends on what your DNS records are and what your infrastructure is.

Of course, I am running a small enterprise with Active Directory and over 2000 DNS entries, so having my stuff public and your stuff public is certainly different. I also have AD, so I have lots of redundancy in DNS.
