Need Podcast options vs. WordPress...

I was considering making a WordPress site and getting a podcast plug-in so that I would have some advanced features.

I have plans to create MP3's, but found many platforms for the simple stuff, like that.

In addition, I would like:

- URL's and/or images associated with each episode
- I need outreach to be pretty easy, so I can communicate with people who follow my podcast
- I have seen other podcasts that once you enroll, the podcast notifies you for various outbound marketing events, like a new episode.
- SEO

What is the name of this type of browser configuration? Once, I had been notified much too often, and un-enrolled. I did this from the browser, I think it was on the Advanced page.

So, please refresh my memory on that, and tell me what podcast solutions provide this.

OR, do I need to make my own WordPress site and get several plug-ins for all this?

Thanks

Clarify your title, "Need Podcast options vs. WordPress".

Using vs. means your comparing something related to Podcasting to WordPress.

Maybe wha t you mean is "Podcast options using WordPress".

Clarify exactly what you mean.

If you do mean "how to setup a WordPress Podcast site"...

- URL's and/or images associated with each episode

Handled by WordPress permalinks. Nothing special here.

Just set your permalink structure to include %postname%, then name your episodes as you like.

- I need outreach to be pretty easy, so I can communicate with people who follow my podcast.

This is a long topic to cover.

If you're only asking about how to have high email deliverability, then use a relay service like MailGun.

Anything else, will be a long set of answers, best suited to opening an individual question on this topic.

- I have seen other podcasts that once you enroll, the podcast notifies you for various outbound marketing events, like a new episode.

https://wordpress.org/plugins/notification is one of many 100s of notification plugins.

Likely best if you search the WordPress plugin repository + find a plugin matching your criteria.

Tip: After you've completed all your onsite SEO work, purchase small amounts of daily traffic from Outbrain, Taboola, Yahoo Gemini to prime your SEO pump.

https://wordpress.org/plugins/powerpress/ provides a good starting point for running a WordPress site containing Podcast audios.

Be sure to transcribe (Fiverr or Transcription Service) all your Podcasts/Videos into written content as your SEO strategy step.

It will be easier to manage this if you can think of your podcast site as separate functions.

  1. A website for users to consume your podcast
  2. Marketing functions to alert your members of your newest podcasts

Wordpress or other CMS such as squarespace will be an easy way to manage your web presence without having to also be a web developer. I found sites like squarespace (or wix or weebly) to be a bit easier to manage and get up and running fast.  Wordpress does offer more options and may have a slightly higher learning curve in some instances.

In any case, either of these offer a way for you to have a list of your podcasts with an overview, then click on a link to view the detail including listening to the podcast. In Wordpress, this will be posting to the blog as opposed to creating a page.  You will create a new post where you can add text content, an image and your mp3 file.

Look for a theme you like first before creating content. Some themes have their own way of building pages/blogs and can't always be easily transferred from one to the other.

For the second part where you alert your members, it will be best to use a service like  mailchimp to collect email addresses for people that want to sign up for your podcast notifications.  Then your membership is managed in mailchimp. Each time you upload a new podcast, you can send out an email notification.  Mailchimp can also automatically manage unsubscribes too.  When you use Wordpress, there is a plug in by mailchimp to add the integration for your site. https://wordpress.org/plugins/mailchimp-for-wp/  Mailchimp is not the only option, but it is a good one.

As an aside, you can upload your mp3's do your site, but it will be a better experience if you use a cdn. The cdn will know if somebody is listening in California vs New York vs London or anywhere else and server the media from the closest server.  Soundcloud is a good option https://help.soundcloud.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003565128-Embedding-a-track-or-playlist-on-WordPress or you can just host cloudflare for all of your site.

Thanks.

The big thing I hated about Podbean is the requirement for followers to first create their own Podbean podcast, before getting notification after following.
