Folder Redirection GPO Policy removal expected results.

I am moving Folder Redirection policy to new location, and do not want to loose users data on policy removal.

I have client with SBS2011 and Folder redirection Policy pointing to:

\\sbs2011\RedirectedFolders\%username%

I am in process of migrating them to Server 2016 Standard (and DFS) and will have new Folder Redirection Policy pointing to:

\\domain.local\shares\users\%username%

I am afraid that when I turn off current "Small Business Server Folder Redirection Policy" and implement new "FOLDER REDIRECTION" policy users will loose their data.

Current "Small Business Server Folder Redirection Policy" is set to "Redirect the folder back to the local userprofile location when policy is removed"

Should I switch it to "Leave the folder in the new location when policy is removed" ?

(Please note that users files are already copied to the new location)

Leave the folder in the new location when policy is removed

That setting would certainly save a lot of time when you re-home the profiles to the new server. Just make sure you've got the permissions correct on the new location. If users aren't owners of the profile folders in the ACL, the profile won't load.

ADAM BROWN: thanks for your comment

So here is the plan:

1. Edit current Policy to "Leave the folder in the new location when policy is removed" and leave for some time so it updates on all PCs
2. Implement new "FOLDER REDIRECTION" Policy

Result:

Users folders should be redirected to new location, and all files should be already there (as they were already copied prior to the Policy change)

Does it sound correct?

Please note that currently users also have "OFFLINE FILE" sync enabled on redirected folders - Is this potential for some issues?
