Would an access point still broadcast it's SSID when it is sleep mode?

Would an access point still broadcast it's SSID when it is sleep mode?
Can an access point go into sleep mode?
If an access point still broadcast it's SSID when in sleep mode, can a client, such as an iPhone bring the access point out of sleep mode?

If an access point goes into sleep mode, how long on average would it take to come out of sleep mode?
Is there such a thing as hibernation for an access point?
