Trying to learn how to use ODFB. Can anyone give me best practices tips?

Not sure if I am a complete noob or just need tips on best practices <g>

I have the sync app installed and going through setting up my o365 account.  It wants to use a really long folder name

c:\users\my_existing_username\onedrive-my_company_name_which_makes_the_links_really_long_and_aren't_there_issues_with_paths_that_are_too_long?

Is it OK to shorten that?  Do I want that onedrive folder to be under c:\users\me? directly?  or shouldn't my my docs be THE onedrive folder?  I realize my docs can be inside onedrive.
Also, concerning the ability to sync the files locally - is it reliable these days? Able to deal with someone working on the cloud version while you work offline? And then it warns of changes when you get back on line? Shows differences then or you have to manually look at it?

And setting up local file sync - is that something that can be managed in the office 365 admin panel by an admin, or you have to touch the desktop / how do you keep someone from syncing too much / filling up their local hard drive?

Trying to learn and keeping in mind people that have been using local storage will have to learn this/ I need to be able to explain it to them.

Uhhh, so I changed the location of the ondrive folder to c:\users\me\ODFB  (A nice short name)

and it made

c:\users\my_existing_username\ODFB\onedrive-my_company_name_which_makes_the_links_really_long_and_aren't_there_issues_with_paths_that_are_too_long?

So you can't shorten the onedrive name?

And on the phone (Ios) in the onedrive app, when logged in, it says 'company name' at the top.  Do you shorten the company name somewhere in 0365 admin so you don't see really long / formal company name all through onedrive (and elsewhere?)

The long folder name is the default setting. You can change it, though: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028633/windows-10-change-the-location-of-your-onedrive-folder

You can set a specific folder to store files from OneDrive when installing/configuring the sync client, but not once its already configured.

Onedrive for business has versioning capabilities which means that if two people are working on a single file, the online copy will save as the primary, and when your offline copy syncs it will create a different version of the file. From there you can compare the two and combine them if you like.
Adam - thank you!  But.....

I have The folder with the long name 'onedrive-my_company_name_which_makes_the_links_really_long_and_aren't_there_issues_with_paths_that_are_too_long' is already under c:
users\me

I'd like to have a folder c:\users\me\ODFB as the root of the one drive.

Following the directions, I can't move onedrive-my_company_name_which_makes_the_links_really_long_and_aren't_there_issues_with_paths_that_are_too_long into c:\users\me because it's already there.

I tried renaming that long folder name to ODFB, then when adding my account again to the app, I give it that location and it makes that long folder name inside ODFB

To be clear, I am trying to rename the onedrive path to be shorter, not so much move it out of users\me

But then again - my ignorance... do I need to worry about that long path name anyway? I just think at some point over time, folders under folders, the path would get too long to even see in file explorer in the address bar?  Maybe the answer is 'so what'?

Do you have problems with a long path?  Do your clients?  Why am I trying to reinvent the wheel / solve a problem that (maybe) doesn't exist?
