Some print jobs go to default and some do not.

Friend has an HP 1310 PSC. At one time he was having printer issues so we installed it again and in his printer and devices there is a 1310 and a 1310 (copy 1). He kept saying he could only print from Word and not from an email, etc. After a closer look some of the print jobs are being sent to the default and some are not. Why not?
I assume this can be resolved by deleting copy 1 but he is reluctant to do that.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Some apps track the printer that was used and so if there are two alike, the user could be selecting one or the other. Delete the copy and you should be fine.

If deleting the copy causes an issue with the other printer, delete both, restart and install just one printer.

NB:  Clear the print spooler first

Right-click “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator“.

Type net stop spooler then press “Enter“.
Type del %systemroot%\System32\spool\printers\* /Q then press “Enter“.
Type net start spooler then press “Enter“.
The print queue on your Windows should now be cleared.

................he has no disc and the printer is ancient. Windows 7 might not find the drivers. And he will be moving to Windows 10 early next year and the 1310 may not work.

My printer was HP895Cse. I began using a G85. It would not print. As it turned out the 895 works with Windows 10 and the G85 does not.
I was not able to find the manufacture date on the two. I guess the G85 is older.
