Social Cooking Experiment

I am demonstrating the use of the Instant Pot as a social and weight loss tool for a group of retirees, mostly women.

I and some others in the Instant Pot community view the Instant Pot as a potential way to bring people together around food in a safe, healthy, and affordable way.

The missing piece as I see it is a web-based tool that will allow two people to schedule a meal together, much like a meeting would be scheduled in an office.

It should ideally be as easy as picking up your smartphone to find either a new or existing person or persons to enjoy a fast and healthy meal with.

Any suggestions in locating the right free web-based tool to adapt for this process are greatly appreciated.

On line and inexpensive scheduling look at Doodle.  Easy, any device, and for small uses - free.

Any online meeting tool can do this.

Google hangouts
Skype
Facebook Messenger
Whats App
If you have worked with an Expert here in a live session, you were using jitsi https://jitsi.org/

You have a lot of options.  Are you trying to integrate something ready made to an app or just trying to piece a  few things together for demonstration or looking for a ready made system? As far as scheduling, hangouts and skype can do this now.

Hangouts - I don't see the scheduling options, or any organized ability to coordinate details
Doodle - Has a free trial, but is not free.
Whatsapp - Not sure I have ever seen this there.

Hangouts scheduling is done via Google Calendar https://support.google.com/a/users/answer/9302870#1.1

Whatsapp is a very popular communications app https://www.whatsapp.com/

I think if you can detail the workflow you are expecting and which devices should be used we can give you better information.   Are you trying to integrate something ready made to an app or just trying to piece a  few things together for demonstration or looking for a ready made system?

Don't forget that for senior people they may not wish to sign up for some of the calendaring options.

Doodle polls will need to be set up by you, but no one else must set up anything.  Just respond.

Trello? very simple to use.. It's really for task management, but easy to set dates. No scary "give us all access to all your data" provision...

If you only need a tool that would allow your users the ability to schedule a meal to share, or to find a meal that is being shared by anyone else, it should be easy to set up with Google Calendar.

You can create a calendar to be shared with all the people who want access to it, and then they can add when they will be cooking an InstantPot meal. Then all the other users can check their calendars to see if anyone is hosting a meal.

It would take some training on the end users part, but it sounds like it should be simple.

1. Accept shared calendar
2. Create "meetings" when they want to share a meal
3. Join a "meeting" when they want to partake in one

Hope this helps!

Ok, Google Calendar works here. Clearly the best option.

However, in researching this, I realized that I was putting the cart before the proverbial horse.

The first task is to find what I am calling a brown-bag friendly venue.

Thanks to everyone for all the assistance.
