Upgrade OS for RDP Server to 2016

Dear Team,

We have number of VMS which are having old OS 2008 R2 and need to upgrade to 2016 standard.

Scenario 1:
I have an RDP server running on 2008R2 i want to upgrade to 2016 standard. Can you please share the best practice to achieve. I have the licenses.
Can i run the 2016 setup on the VM and upgrade.

My setup is on VMware Standard (HCI) version 6.7.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

My answer is the same as the answers to your other posted questions.  You cannot upgrade a server from 2008R2 to 2016.  Your system is virtualized, so what you need to do is create a new VM, install Server 2016 and then configure it for remote desktop services.  If you need some guidance on this:

This article is for Windows Server 2019, but 2016 is the same.
