Which AWS FREE Tier is most advisable (for WordPress)?

I will not choose either of the Windows Server options due to exposure to viruses.

There are 4 LINUX options:

Amazon Linux
Red Hat
SUSE Linux
Ubuntu

(Is Ubuntu an instance of LINUX?)

But I m a .NET developer and may be interested in the following option:
NET Core 2.1 with Amazon Linux 2 - Version 1.0 - ami-0bed74d89326c46bc
.NET Core 2.1 and the PowerShell 6.0 pre-installed to run your .NET Core applications on Amazon Linux 2 with Long Term Support (LTS).

Which platform is safest against hacking and viruses?

Thanks

Hi There,
I would go for either redhat or ubuntu personally.

For ease I'm used to Red Hat derivitives including Centos.

There are also tons of handy tutorials for Red hat based systems.

It is enough to keep your Linux system AND Wordpress up to date in order to be protected from virusses.

For Ubuntu, issue frequently enough:
sudo apt update; sudo apt upgrade

There are ways to schedule this from a crontab.

For RedHat, SUSE, etc., similar tools exist.

For WordPress itself, you have to login into the backend on a regular time interval for upgrading the Wordpress software. This kind of updates can probably be issued from a script like this: wp.sh

Good call.

2) Ubuntu has a more recent Kernel + packaging system is far more sensible than other Distros.

3) I m a .NET developer...

Well... Keep in mind the .NET version running on Linux, last time I checked, is an open source project (.NET clone) which might or might not provide exactly what's required for your projects.

To me, if I had to use .NET, I'd stick with Windows...

No, the .NET Developer part is not so relevant. I want a stable WordPress/PowerPress hosted podcast. I doubt I would ever need to program much, but am willing to learn PHP, in that event.

I expect to use plug-ins and themes as much as possible.

So, it appears Ubuntu is the best choice.

Agreed?
