Copy millions of small file attachment

Hi,

In current production environment, we have File system that is holding more 2 TB of attachments with <350 mb. We plan to migrate this attachment to different drive on the same server. Currently we are working with Fast copy utility to copy these files to the new drive on the same server. Current status of Fastcopy it will take approx 7250 minutes ie 120 hours to complete this file copy and we are not certain if it gets complete within the stipulated time. The current filesystem server has 4 cpu with 8 GB ram and the memory utilization is 99%.
Please advise if there are any out of box available tool that can help us to copy the 2 tb attachments to different drive.

Screenshot of Filecopy is attached with this update.

The problem is the small files.  They always take longer to copy.  If this were a VM or you could copy the disk at the block level as opposed to the file level, you could do the copy much much faster.  (A VM, just copy the entire virtual hard drive over - though this does require that you've designed the system so that the file system in question is on a single virtual drive).
could you make an image of the drive to another one - then delete the rest ?

ASKER

Hi,

Are there any software available to make image of particular drive? VMWare image backup is ruled out for now.

Alternatively you could add a mirror to the volume, wait for it to sync and then remove the first mirror but unfortunately that converts it to dynamic disks. No downtime though.
