Backing up files on multiple servers.

I have a customer with 4 Servers and I am responsible for the backups. I typically use Cloudberry labs backup software and back data up files and SQL to Backblaze for cloud and locally to some sort of SSD. I also setup email notifications.....I generally feel pretty good about the backup plans and I test recovery from time to time.

However, I am having trouble backing up these other servers over the network..lots of permission issues. Plus, there are so many files and SQL DBs to backup scheduling is tight.

Does anyone else backup up over the network or have backup software running on each server?

When you say backing up over the network, does it mean through the internet to cloud storage?

lots of permission issues
If you have permission issue, then need to make sure the UserID which is being used for backup has the necessary rights to do backup.  Else, backup will never work no matter what backup software or method you are using.

have backup software running on each server
Depending on what are the requirement, this is possible but it will entail more administrative work as you will have more backup servers to manage.

Do these servers all need to be members of the Domain? Maybe that's why the permission issues.
If you're backing up SQL then you need a backup solution that is application aware. This means that the backups software will manage the log files (for example SQL or exchange and the databases) and it needs certain permissions at the database level. For example SQL permissions set by the SQL server and not the domain permissions the database sits in.

We use Veeam and find it's one of the best options available.

Do you test recovering the SQL database(s). I highly recommend it.

See above answer.

With Veeam you install the software on one device and then push agents out to all other devices. This allows you one point to administrate everything which is nice, saves allot of time. They offer a free trial I recommend you try it.
