Need a standalone wireless Access Point with DHCP on the wireless and NOT on the wire.

I need to replace a D-Link Acess Point.  This device has particular characteristics that seem hard to replace:

- It must accept a fixed IP address for management on the LAN - as the LAN has no DHCP server.
- It must plug into a wired subnet and NOT be a DHCP server on the wire.
- It must have a DHCP server for the wireless clients - over a range that one can set in the range of the LAN it's connected to by wire.
- It should support IP address assignments in the DHCP server
While *I* don't need it, presumably if used on a network with DHCP service, one could turn off the APs DHCP and it will forward requests onto the LAN.

Finding an AP (or a Router with AP mode) with these characteristics seems difficult.
Any suggestions for devices that *will* do the job?

If I understand you, I do this with a variety of routers.

1. Connect a WAN port on the Wireless router to a LAN port on the network.
2. Give the WAN port a Static IP address on your network.
3. Use DHCP on the Wireless router.

This puts the router OFF your main network.  This appears to be what you asked for.

The ubiquiti ap's support this but you need to run the unifi managment software either in a vm or by using a cloudkey

The Ubiquiti boxes are very nice and I have the controller software installed to manage it.

Be careful of wireless bridges as that cuts signal strength in half.

I prefer to connect the Wireless Access point to main network via Ethernet to keep signal strength strong.
As David mentioned, the UniFi APs support this scenario perfectly.

Thanks all!

I wonder if I missed something?  I got a Unifi AP AC Pro and started setting it up.

I'm not using a companion controller or Cloud Key of any kind - only using the software on a workstation to set it up and control it.
I found no capability to assign MAC addresses to IP addresses.
I wasn't able to set it up as a DHCP server, although the controls are there for that purpose.

Oh, I finallyh found out how to assign a MAC address but it appears to require a USG Unifi Security Gateway.... ???
You are very welcome, good luck with it!
