I use the below in a GPO startup script to install Java8 and it is successful.

\\server1\share\jre-8u221-windows-i586.exe INSTALL_SILENT=1  REBOOT=0 NOSTARTMENU=0 SPONSORS=0 REMOVEOUTOFDATEJRES=1

Does anyone knows how to make the GPO to only run once?  I am trying to avoid the install to be run everything a workstation is startup.

Thanks.

An alternative is to run a .bat to execute the command. example:

instjava.bat

echo off
if exist c:\runonce_instjava.$$$ goto end

\\server1\share\jre-8u221-windows-i586.exe INSTALL_SILENT=1  REBOOT=0 NOSTARTMENU=0 SPONSORS=0 REMOVEOUTOFDATEJRES=1

echo installed> c:\runonce_instjava. $$$

end:
