How many subdocuments can a Word Master Document contain?

I have a collection of about 250 related documents.  I'd like to be able to search easily through all of them  as one document.

I'm intrigued by the idea of Word master documents.  What might be the upper limit of how many subdocuments can be contained in one Word master document?  Thanks

Here is how you do it:
https://mywindowshub.com/ms-word-2016-creating-master-document-sub-documents/

The documents are integrally part of the whole, not just a collection of independent documents

Try it for your documents and see if it works.

Otherwise, index the folder (Windows Index properties in Control Panel) and search will find what you need
According to Microsoft, a Master Document can have a maximum of 255 Subdocuments.

Thanks very much, John and Flyster.  Both answers were helpful, and I got what I needed.

I had been hoping for a ceiling greater than 255, but I guess that'll have to do!

Have a good day.
