Exchange 2010 - Logs will not be purged.

Been having an error alert from our Backup Solution which is MSP Backup by Solarwinds. The error goes 'Exchange files could be inconsistent. Logs will not be purged. Check with eseutil.exe'. This error has been not specific to which database it was actually pertaining since we have 3 database for this exchange 2010 that we have. Had checked with the backup solution support and cannot identify which database is it too. Anyway, I checked exchange and it seems that the exchange is not automatically purging this database after all. Has anyone encountered this inconsistent data and what's the best way to resolve it? Thank you in advance.

Just disable DB consistent check in your Backup solution and try again. If it is successful, you can enable it back.

Hi Amit,

It would have been great if I could just do that.

However, this MSP Backup by Solarwinds is provisioned together with their N-Central by Solarwinds as well. I have checked everywhere on its Backup Solution Agent and there is no way to just disable DB Consistency Check. They have disabled user access to disable that check to protect of course their backup cabinets. They have suggested the following:

1. Remove root Exchange selection and select certain databases. The lack
of this approach that ion case of new database is added to the system you have to add it to the selection
manually.

2. Second option is modify registry entries for Exchange VSS writer and remove component that is not need.
However I do not have certain instructions how to do so.

These are the exact instruction I received from the support team. BUT which database is the error coming from? They cannot answer me. Their logs is not helping them to find out which exact Database it is really the fact that there are a total of 4 database local on this exchange server I am working on including the archive.

Anyway, I will try to re-enable selecting one by one and attempt to run the backup. I will see which one along the way generates the error. That's the only option I have left I guess.

Thanks
