How to extract/unzip .zip files from document library in Sharepoint Online

Good Morning,

I have just started using Sharepoint Online and am attempting to upzip/extract a file that I have uploaded to my document library. But am unable to figure out how to do it. I want to be able to extract the zip from within my document library right on the sharepoint site.

I am aware I can unzip from Windows file explorer if I map to a document library, but this is not the same effect, as i figure the zip is downloaded to my machine first and then extracted.

There has to be a way to extract a zip file that has been uploaded to a sharepoint site. Clicking on the file within the document library on the sharepoint site, allows me to view the contents of it within the zipped state. But I do not see an option to extract it.

If extracting a zip file is not possible from within the sharepoint site, are their any apps that are compatible with sharepoint online that will accomplish this?

Kindly advise.

Regards,
K

First answer, when you say extract you mean unzip all files from the .zip file or if you mean something else provide more clarity.

Hi David,

Yes, I am referring to unzipping a .zip file within the document library on Sharepoint Online.

So for example, one of my folders on the local file server is 1GB, I zip the folder and the zipped file is 300 MBs.

I then upload this zipped file to my document library on my Sharepoint site. And unzip it from the site (within the browser).

Please let me know if you are still unclear.

Thanks,

Likely a Sharepoint expert can answer this... and...

Might be easier just to sync all the individual files, rather than making a zip file, syncing the zip file, unzipping the zip file.

OK thanks anyways,

Unfortunelty, syncing is not an option as this has been disabled by my companies headquarters and they have no plans to enable it.

Thanks.

Will continue to look around for tools that can accomplish what I am trying to do.

While Tru Copy Paste does do the job and meet my expectations, it is very pricey with their thresholds.

It is indeed pricey, the other alternative is the exact same price, but with less features.
