If I am in DOS, how do I find out specific documentation about a dos command? For example I want to find out about the dos command /k switch which can be used to prevent a dos window from closing when called from an application.

You can get help on a command by doing the command followed by /?, so for example:

dir /?

In your case you can do:

cmd /?

Another good source of additional info can sometimes be:

/k is actually a "CMD" shell switch

Some other switches for "CMD" can be found here
https://ss64.com/nt/cmd.html
or by typing
cmd /?

from within your console

The list of available commands and switches is actually quite large. For example Bash and PowerShell scripting has their own set of operators, commands, and switches

The documentation for some commands is rather long.  The HELP command (HELP <command>) can be preferable to <command> /?, because HELP has a built-in pager.
