I have used vCheck before found it fine, just wondering from a scripting point of view whats a good way to automate morning checks for say 40-50 customers

What are the options?

Any open source options available?

Much appreciated , would be great if someone had done something similar themselves and had first hand experience

You could look at something like the PRTG hosted solution, and deploy remote probes.  Not free but very functional.

Thanks I guess apart from scripting for 30-40 setups I am looking at paying, any open source alternatives?
PRTG allows a remote probe, Nagios has a free version as well, but not sure if you can monitor 40 sites from a central location.

Depending on how many things you are monitoring PRTG is not that bad, 5000 sensors for $900/yr, or $22 per customer assuming 125 sensors each.  Or $0.18/year/sensor/customer if you bill by usage.  Very reasonable.

Our Operations Staff use a spreadsheet and go through and do, 100 Daily checks each morning for an hour, also using all the Management Engines, Agents, Logs, including PRTG, Observium, vCenter Server, Splunk type Single Pane of glass.

To get it correct, you need to develop and pay for monitoring.

We injest ALL the data from ALL Datacentres into a very large Syslog Server, and then Sumologic ingests all the data, where we run custom scripts on a single pane of glass.

It also depends what data you want to look at....Health, Capacity, Patches etc
