Apply Hyper-V Licences

How do you apply Hyper-V Licences.
This is not a question on how to licence based on the cpu core count and number of VM's to run- I know all that and have purchased the licences.
I have a combination of 1 x 16 Core and a number of 2 core licences to take me to the correct number based on CPU core count and the number of VM's I want to run.

The question is - how and where to apply all these licence numbers/codes.
Do I apply all of them in the Host OS (yes I am running a Hyper-V host) and then the Guest OS's (all Server 2019 Std) will be automatically licensed?
Do I have to license each individual Guest and if so how many Licenses do I apply to each guest and what happens if I then reduce or increase the CPU count with in the Guest?
DO I have to install A KMS server software and place all the license keys in that and then point each server to the KMS server?

As you can see, I have no glue on how to apply the licences keys I have to the Host and Guest OS's.
I have been unable to locate a document or thread that instructs how to do what has to be a easy task.

I thank you very much for all input/help

Regards

Brian

There is the Automatic Virtual Machine Authentication (AVMA).

After preparing the activated Host Hyper-V server, by creating a binding of the host and the guest OSs, then the VMs are automatically activated.

For this method, you must be running the Data center edition of Windows Server 2016 or 2012 R2on the Hyper-V server, while the guest OS (or VMs) can run either Standard, Data Center, or Essential editions...

In order to install the AVMA key on a guest mahchine, after setting up the VMs to activate, you must run:

slmgr /ipk AVMAkey

That's as much as i have found out about it so far, what I know is from the Exam Ref 70-740 book by Craig Zacker, by Chapter 1, Skill 1.1, "Determine the appropriate activation model for server installation".

Edit: the chapter also describes and guides on KMS activation method, Active Directory-based activation, and then AVMA method.

Cheers.

For the product keys in an elevated cmd:
slmgr -ipk AAAA-1234-BBBB-5678-CCCC
slmgr -ato

Wait a minute or two before running the second step.
 -ipk = Install Product Key
 -ato = Activate
I don't remember how many characters in the key at the moment. Make sure the hyphen is in between each character group.

Thanks guys for the quick response.

Kevin,  you indicate that you need Data Center as the Host OS.  I am running Std.  At the end of the day I need the Host and 4 VM's, therefore it was not worth buying Data Center.

Phillip
Just to clarify, you enter the product keys on the Host OS
For the 2nd step, is done on the host and each guest, just the host or just each guest?

Again thank you for your input.

Brian
The host and the guests licensed using the host license the key is used for both host and guests.

If Datacenter edition then there's a process to set up automatic guest activation for the included key.
