Getting off large text streams

I use an iPhone, but I think this applies to anyone who texts.  I am new to the world of texting, and I find it so annoying when someone sends out a text-blast to a dozen or more "friends" ... then everyone on the text starts responding, and before I know it my phone is buzzing with new (and largely irrelevant) text messages.   I've tried to get off these large text threads, but was told that unless everyone had the same device (I think it's an iPhone, but I'm not sure) there's no way to "leave the conversation".  I would happily buy a third party application to get out of unwanted text streams ... does something like that exist?  Or can the originator of the original text take me off after it's begun?  Or do I just need to live with the annoyance?

Thanks,

Phil

Go to the message
Tap details

This will remove you from a group text message!   I hope this helps

Stacy,  Thanks for the prompt reply.  I'm looking at the last message I received that included multiple recipients, and I can get to "Details" by hitting the "info" icon below the group.  But under Details there's the list of recipients, then "Send my current location", "Share my location", and a "Hide Alerts" button followed by two tabs … one "Images" and one "Attachments" … but nothing that says "leave this conversation".
What iPhone do you have?
Go to the group message that you want to leave
Tap the top of the conversation
Tap the i (icon) leave this conversation

You can also mute the conversation
Again go to the group message
Tap the top of the conversation and tap the i icon
Turn on hide alerts
I have an iPhone 6Plus with the latest operating software.  And I can't find anywhere to tap to get "leave this conversation".  I do get to the "I" icon (which says "info" underneath it), but that only takes me to a screen with the information outlined in my previous response.  This is so frustrating.
If it makes a difference, some of the people on the text group have Android instead of iPhone.
I understand the frustration.  Take a look at the screenshot to see if this will help you.
