Hi There,

GAL is available in Outlook for MAC.

Can you please try changing default GAL - https://support.office.com/en-us/article/change-default-address-book-53b3ce7a-9d35-4e27-9e37-57979778fe5b

the second link is being blocked by malwarebytes saying it contains a trojan.  The first link appears to be for the Windows version of Outlook.  This is a MAC and it's Outlook 2016 for Mac.
Can't imagine why the Mac version of Outlook 2016 doesn't work like the Windows version, but if possible customer wants the ability to list the GAL and their public folder contacts folder in list view, just like it works on Windows.  Not typing in search characters, and that doesn't even work.

Is there a way to do this?
Yes it is possible to access the GAL or more accurately the Directory service which the GAL is derived from.
1. Open Outlook
2. Open Outlook,Preferences,Accounts.
3. For Server tab, enter details of your directory service which contains accounts. E.g. Active directory server or service.
e.g.
Server: ldap.mycompany.com
Port: 3268
Search base: dc=mycompany,dc=com

Then you can lookup accounts
Are the values for these consistent?
Assume the server is the fully qualified host name i.e. server1.companyname.com, or is it ldap.companyname.com?
is the port always 3268 (if it was never changed)?
search base companyname.com?

Also, can it be set like Outlook for Windows, so that the GAL directory (or contacts public folder) is listed out for selection, not presented as 'searchable'?
The server name is the FQDN of the Domain Controller or and service DNS address.
The Port 3268 is the port for access to the Global Catalog service on the DC.
The search base has to be a distinguished name rather than a human readable format.
As for Address book, it must have written this way. A third party app may provide a solution.
