Windows Media Player getting Corrupt Database

Hardware:  Lenovo T510 laptop with External 2TB USB WD My Passport drive.    Operating System is WIndows 10 1903 version.
Over 1.2TB of songs on the external USB Drive.  (Note: there are only USB 2.0 ports on this laptop).
Problem:  Using WIndows Media Player - but the database keeps getting corrupted.
What I have tried:   1) Disabled Windows Media player, rebooted, then re-enabled Windows Media Player.   No difference.
2) From an elevated command prompt, registered jbscript.dll and vbscript.dll.   No effect.
3) Saved off all the files in C:\users\(current user)\appdata\local\microsoft\Media Player      and then deleted them.    Windows Media Player rebuilt the CurrentDatabase_400.wmdb (which took about 4 hours).   Then everything seemed to work fine.   However, when I closed Windows Media Player and then re-opened a couple of times, I got a message that the database was corrupted.   It renamed the database to "CorruptDatabase_400.wmdb" and is now re-creating the CurrentDatabase_400.wmdb.

Any Suggestions...   I worry that the size of the music library on the external USB 2.0 drive is causing the corruption - but, not sure how to tell for sure...

Have you ever moved the library between drives?
And, are you careful to "safely remove" the external drive rather than unplugging it?

Davis - I think that you are on track.   I am replacing the 240GB laptop drive with a 2TB drive and will move the music files onto the drive.
My suspicion right now is that the huge number of files on the external drive (411,377 per the virus scan that I ran - which took about 10 hours to run) is simply overwhelming the WIndows Media Player given the relatively slow USB 2.0 connection to the external hard drive.
Also, as you point out, the external hard drive when unplugged arbitrarily may result in file corruption.  When I cold boot the laptop with the USB drive disconnected, then open Windows Media Player, then plug in the USB drive... it starts to "update the library" and this runs for a very long time.   So long that in fact I thought it was stuck - but, eventually it finished.   So, I think that just the time it takes for WIndows Media Player to scan through the external hard drive and "index" the songs is part of the problem.

I will update this ticket after experimenting with moving the songs/data from the external hard disk to the internal 2TB drive.

Stay tuned !!!

I ended up upgrading the hard drive from 240GB to a 2TB Firecuda drive.    I then moved all the songs from the external USB drive onto the "D:" drive (Partitioned the 2TB into 200GB C: drive and the balance to D: drive).

Then I included the D: Drive in the Windows Search Index and allowed it to continue.
Then I opened Windows Media Player and made sure that the D: drive was added as a library and allowed it to "find" all the songs.

It seems to be working - and I am tired of messing with it anymore !!!!     So, for the cost of a $100 2TB drive, I think this is a workable solution.

PS:  SInce this is a customer's Laptop, the customer will be the ultimate word on whether all their issues are resolved - but, Windows Media Player seemed to work just fine when I tested it :)

Points to Davis for his help and good advice !
