How to make a lookup field for the ID field in Sharepoint list automaticlly fill the lookup field.

A SharePoint export  of a simple list to Excel from O365 is missing the autogenerated ID (number) column.  I need this column to complete the rest of the project.  I see that I can create a lookup field to copy that field but don't see how to make it copy the field automatically.  New items in the list show 'required field' and then the data has to be selected from a drop down.  I need it to fill upon creating the item. Do I need another list for the lookup? Then how do I make it increment normally?
