NIC states 'Limited' for ethernet connection
I have two NICs, one is cabled directly into a server, and the other goes through a Sonicwall and out to the internet where it sends and receives files from a central portal.
The NIC to the server is working fine.
The NIC to the internet is saying "Limited" and I cannot get full connectivity for that NIC, can anyone please advise on how to troubleshoot a NIC that is giving this error

Look at the Sonicwall logs and make sure that specific NIC/IP can go out the WAN and access the Internet. Could be a rule setting that needs to be fixed.
Is the information that is getting received via DHCP correct? Also, does this problem exist when ONLY the NIC connected to the Sonicwall is connected?

thank you for help!
I will check sonicwall, but I believe it is open from the (static ip) of the nic to the internet. this nic was previously connected to an old Cisco firewall and had the same limited connection problem. so I moved it over to the sonicwall, and, on this particular subnet, it has still got the limited connection problem. I put it on dynamic ip on a different subnet and it worked fine, but on this subnet it is always limited...

On a different subnet? That sounds a little odd. Have you checked the configuration of the switch port that NIC is connected to?

it's going straight into a spare port on the sonicwall...
Then in that case, is there something different about the subnet where you have problems vs the others?
ASKER
true. it did work fine on the other subnet. so that made me think there's no hardware problem with the nic itself. what am I looking for, do you think?

Folks - can you recommend specific checks I should be running?
I doubt there is a hardware issue at all. Could you show the PortShield settings? I want to see your interfaces, and your virtual interfaces. Make sure to identify which port the machine is connected on.

Hi. Nic states it has "No internet access"
I'm asking about settings from the Sonicwall...
