Datto Alto Hard Drive Replacement

We have a Datto Alto (Model Datto-1000) backup drive that was just replaced with a newer model because the hard drive was failing (SMART Errors).  I have searched online and can't find any information on replacing the hard drive with a new one.

I would like to simply replace the internal hard drive and then use the system to perform local backups for other server's.  Has anyone seen this done or it my old Datto Alto basically a paperweight now?

Thanks

Thanks for the help, my unit is an Alto and it’s a very small footprint all in one box and not rack mount like the one in that link.  I have attached a picture of the unit we have.

is it the alto data 2 1TB?

replace the drive with a 1TB maybe even a 2TB drive
Yes that appears to be exactly what i have, a 1TB unit with a dying HD.  I would like to put a 2 TB in if possible but even a 1 TB would be fine.  Just looking to re-purpose it.

Thanks

That’s it, I’m not familiar with Datto to much, if I replace the drive then it’s just a mini PC at that point as the Datto backup solution I’m assuming is installed on the HD as it’s OS?  So they only way to bring it back would be to clone the drive (if it’s healthy enough) to preserve the OS.
I would guess the backup software is installed on the failing drive, since this looks to be just a mini PC.  Best bet would be to make a copy of the old drive on to a new drive.  Without more info, its hard to tell what O.S. might be installed.  An easy way to copy it would be to use a standalone disk duplicator.. they are not expensive.

I have one of these:  https://www.newegg.com/wavlink-wl-st334u-dock/p/0VN-0069-00001

It will standalone copy a source drive sector by sector to a target drive of the same or larger size.  Note, that even though you copy to a larger drive, the partition table will be identical.  If you want to use the added space, you either have to add another partition or expand the existing.

A good tool for that is MiniTool partition wizard a windows utility.  You can attach the newly copied drive using the USB port on disk duplicator to access it.  Minitool sees disk layouts for Unix and Windows based systems and can move/resize existing partitions.   See:  https://www.partitionwizard.com/
It is a customized Ubuntu Distribution (for the O/S) and the splash screen hides the ubuntu screens
It's a Zoltac PC and i was able to install windows 10 on a second HD i have.  I'm ordering a 2 TB drive to attempt a clone, if that does not work ill just use it for something else in the office, maybe a small workstation.  Thanks for you help.
